Number of family members

Standard

Do you ever wonder what’s the typical family number? Is there a typical number? I was thinking about this recently. This thought was probably inspired by the Dugger family from that reality show. I read an article about the birth of their 19th child. Wow. Why did the want so many? I’ve never watched their show. I mean, if you have that many children, it should be because you own a farm and need help on the farm.

I’m not hating. I’m just curious. Don’t they get on each others’ nerves? Maybe they’re a tight knit family who get along very well. I hope you don’t get too mad or upset with me for wondering.

Anyway, I thought about some cartoons, TV showsd movies I’ve watched and that have five member families and four member families. There are other different ranges too. Here are some that I can recall that are the main families:

Five Member families

Full House – Danny, D.J., Stephanie, Michelle, and including the deceased mother. I’m grouping them as a five member family because although the mother was deceased, she was mentioned a few times. If you include Jesse and Joey, they’d be a six member family (seven including the deceased mother).

Family Matters – Carl, Harriet, Eddie, Laura, and Judy. At some point, Judy was just gone from the show. If you include Rachel and Richie, they’d be a seven member family.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air – Philip, Vivian, Hilary, Carlton, and Ashley. They originally started out as a five member family, then Nicky was born. If you include Will, they’d be a seven member family.

Step by Step – Carol, Dana, Karen, Mark, and including Carol’s ex husband/father of her children are one family. Frank, J.T., Al, Brenden, and including Frank’s ex wife/mother of his children are another family. The families combined and became a step family. Carol and Frank later had Lily, so they became a seven member family. If you include Cody (before Lily came along), they’d be a seven member family.

The Simpsons – Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie are one family. If you include Grandpa Abe in The Simpson’s clan, they are a six member family. Jacqueline, Selma, Patty, Marge, and including the father are another family. (The father was mentioned at times, but I don’t remember if he was deceased or not).

Family Guy – Peter, Lois, Meg, Chris, and Stewie.

Eddie’s Million Dollar Cookoff – Eddie, his two brothers, and their parents.

Motocrossed – Andrea, Andrew, Jason, and their parents.

Roseanne – Dan, Roseanne, Becky, Darlene, and D.J. Dan and Roseanne later had another child and they became a six member family.

Boy Meets World – Alan, Amy, Eric, Cory, and Morgan.

The Proud Family – Oscar, Trudy, Penny, BeBe, and CeCe.

Kim Possible – Kim, Jim, Tim, and their parents.

Even Stevens – Donnie, Ren, Louis, and their parents.

Mrs. Doubtfire – Daniel, Miranda, Lydia, Chris, and Natalie. Daniel and Miranda are divorced.

Dexter – Dexter, Rita, Aster, Cody, and Harrison. Aster and Cody are Dexter’s stepchildren. This didn’t stay a five member family.

Bobby’s World – Howard, Martha, Kelly, Derek, and Bobby. Howard and Martha later had twins, so they became a seven member family.

The Addams Family Values – Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsly, and Pubert. If you include Fester and Morticia’s mom, they are a seven member family.

Smart Guy – Evette, Marcus, T.J., their father, and the deceased mother. I’m grouping them as a five member family because although the mother was deceased, she was mentioned a few times.

Freddie – Joe, Freddie, Sophia, and their parents. I dont remember what happened to their mom. I think she was deceased. Joe was deceased. Their father was alive, but had another lover.

The Parent Hood – Robert, Jerri, Michael, Zaria, and Nicholas.

The Nanny – Maxwell, Maggie, Brighton, Grace, and the deceased mother. I’m grouping them as a five member family because although the mother was deceased, she was mentioned a few times. Maxwell and Fran (the nanny) eventually fall in love and got married. Maxwell and Fran eventually had twins, making them a seven member family.

Unhappily Ever After – Jack, Jennifer, Ryan, Tiffany, and Ross.

Home Improvement – Tim, Jill, Brad, Randy, and Mark.

Four member families

That’s So Raven – Victor, Tanya, Raven, and Cory.

Married With Children – Al, Peggy, Kelly, and Bud.

Life With Louie – Andy, Ora, Louie, and Tommy.

She’s The Man – Viola, Sebastian, and their parents. Their parents are divorced.

The Other Me – Alana, Will, and their parents.

The Poof Point – Marie, Eddie, and their parents.

Au Pair – Oliver, Kate, and Alex. They are initially a three member family because the mother was deceased. Oliver marries Jenny (the Au Pair) in Au Pair II, making her become Kate and Alex’s stepmother and making them become a four member family.

That’s all I could think of and feel like writing.
